Officer of US Affairs from the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges in XJTU visits Hofstra



Mr. Wang Peng, Officer for US Affairs, Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), China, paid a visit to Hofstra University on May 26. Hofstra and XJTU will sign an exchange student agreement and establish a joint academic program (3+2) in I/O Psychology articulation agreement on June 9, 2013. The purpose of Mr. Wang’s trip to Hofstra is to help the students at XJTU to have a better understanding of Hofstra before the formal launch of the exchange student program and the 3+2 joint academic program.

“I was deeply impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities that Hofstra University has provided to its students. In addition, the easy access to the commercial, financial, entertainment, fashion and research center of the world – New York City, made Hofstra an attractive university for Chinese students….” as commented by Mr. Wang.

XJTU is one of China's oldest institutions of higher learning, and has been regarded as one of the top ten universities in the country. Founded in Shanghai in 1896 as Nanyang Public, it was renamed Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1921. Today, XJTU is a comprehensive research university offering programs in many areas—science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, art, law, philosophy, education, etc. It includes 23 schools, eight undergraduate residential colleges, and 12 affiliated teaching hospitals. XJTU has a faculty and staff of about 5600, of which 2686 are full-time teachers, including over 1500 professors and associate professors. XJTU has a current enrollment of about 30,000 full-time students, including over 13,000 masters and doctoral candidates. The university offers 78 undergraduate majors, and awards master degrees in 242 disciplines and doctorate degrees in 154.

XJTU has extensive ties to the world of international scholarship and research. Fourteen Nobel laureates, one Fields Prize winner and over 2000 foreign professors have been invited to the campus to lecture. Over 17,000 scholars, CEOs, and high-level government officials from around the world have been involved in exchanges or other kinds of collaborative activity with the university.
Xi'an Jiatong University, which is located in the city of Xi'an in Shaanxi province, has three campuses: the Xingqing campus, the Yanta campus and the Qujiang campus, covering a total area of 256.78 hectares.
